Right! What's this blog about then?

I don't believe in guilty pleasures in entertainment.

When I hear someone say "This movie is fun! It's stupid but its a guilty pleasure!" all it means to me is the person liked something they felt they shouldn't and feel guilty about admitting it. It's like they are apologizing for liking something. They don't want to own up to thinking something is good that they expect other people not to like. Why the guilt? I say if you like something, have the balls to say it without the copout of calling it a guilty pleasure. Say it loud!

There's a reason I own the DVDs of "Krull," "Dune," "Transformers the Movie," "The Black Hole," and many other movies even hardcore geeks will have trouble admitting they like. I like them, it's that simple. They do their job of putting a smile on my face for whatever reason (and I'll probably go into some of those reasons if I ever get a chance to write here with any consistency). I don't feel a need to defend my particular preferences to anyone (unless they ask of course, in which case I'll give 'em an earful). My tastes are my own, no matter how much social isolation and personal pain they've caused ('snif'). Dammit I need my pain! (more Star Trek references to come).

Anyway that's what this blog'll be about. Just me talking about what I like (and don't) be it good, bad, or ugly to other people. No guilty pleasures here.

Ok, I admit it. I really like Sorority Boys.

You see! Doesn't that feel good?!?!? My noble work is just beginning.

The Black Hole f'ing ROCKS. I still have my Vincent and Maximillian action figures.

This is quite a noble blog, Chris. You are a gentleman and a scholar for encouraging us to be free.

I have an unhealthy addiction to My Fair Brady. And I watch Logan's Run every chance I get.

Wow, just feel the love flowing...

HOly crap, thank God, someone else owns Black Hole! I loved that movie as a kid! It was also a great ride at Adventureland.

I love Carnosaur, and Showgirls, and Black Hole was great!

Oh, and Sorority Boys was hilarious!

Dune isn't a guilty pleasure!

I haven't seen Sorority Boys yet, but I will-that's Luthor and the Seventh Heaven guys in drag, right? Yeah, I like Showgirls too, I like Gina Gershon.
I was thinking about the movie Johnny Suede this morning, you have to check it out. Very early indie flick with Brad Pitt and Catherine Keener, goffy, hilarious and kind of sexy, too.

I'll tell you what I'm into again big time-not movie wise, but Wacky Packages! They have been brought back and I bought a bunch at Eddie's Sweet Shop on Metropolitan Ave, seems they can't keep up with the demand. I collected these like crazy as a kid, and love the new ones, too. They now come with magnets and tattoos!

Oh my GOD, Wacky Packages! You just brought me back to a far simpler time! I loved those things. Check this out: http://www.wackypackages.org/

My god, were they that graphic when we were kids?

i like the Jolly Mean Giant.

I somehow have missed Showgirls, no idea how.

Logan's Run is classic! The 'sexiest movie of all time' according to Ross Geller. Jenny Agutter is an all time hottie. Not to mention Box - the dumbest looking yet somehow menacing robot of all time!

I've never seen Logan's Run-for some reason I was thinking of Hogan's Heroes in my mind...Hogan/Logan, I have to check it out.

I have the showgirls deluxe special edition... :)

Did any of you see that horror movie "Jack Frost", it was hilarious...

Stacey said...

Oh, I love that movie "Private Benjamin"... I just can't turn it off...

Roe said...

Private Benjamin is a great movie, I loved the TV series, too.

Logan's Run ROCKS. When they're chasing Logan through to the little sex city thing? I remember my parents trying to explain that one, hee hee... Stay away from that travesty of a TV series, though. Gregory Harrison as Logan - Trapper John is no Logan!!!

I haven't seen Jack Frost, but heard it's hilarious.

I have Logan's Run on DVD, we must cue it up during our next girls' night out, when we will apparently all learn to knit while simultaneously cooking and throwing Lauren a housewarming party. Damn, can we multitask or what?

With one post, Chris has brought on quite the conversation string!

you are right. heartbreakers is an awesome movie. all my friends make fun of me, but when i make them watch it they grudgingly give it a little bit of a good response... they say it was funny but stupid. no, it was just funny, and they are stupid. liberation!
